EDUCATION
I'm currently a senior at Carroll College in Waukesha, WI (just outside Milwaukee). I'm studying graphic communications with an emphasis on technology as my major. I have expected minors in the field of politics, communication, and economics, respectively.
I'm trying to take advantage of the liberal arts background that Carroll offers. I've already taken classes in cultural geography, American history, marketing, statistics, art history, and ethics.
I currently have a 3.34 cumulative GPA with my last semester being 3.75.
COMMUNITY AND CULTURAL INVOLVEMENT
I have a special thirst for being very active in my community - whether that's with my college, society, or culture. Below are some examples of my involvement.
Within my college, I'm currently:
- The lone student representative on the Presidential Search Committee for Carroll College. Carroll has only had 13 presidents since it's 1846 establishment, so the pick of next the president is the biggest responsibility of any student for my four years. I've been trusted with giving insight from a student's perspective.
- On the Governance Committee at Carroll. It's a body of nine people - eight faculty and staff members and one student (me) - given the responsibility of restructuring the school's governance. It's a mighty task that could end up taking a whole year of research and debate.
- The Vice-President of Carroll College's Student Senate. This is my second year and my highest position.
- The President of the Delta Rho Upsilon fraternity on Carroll's Campus. I'm in charge of philanthropy and publicity, which happens to be what I'm good at.
- An Orientation Leader. It's a student that helps guide and advise incoming freshman for 10 days during the summer.
- A Student Alumni Ambassador representative. It's an award given to a sophomore who exemplifies the qualities of a future alumni that will benefit the college via grants, representation, and involvement.
- A student representative on the Faculty/Student Ethics Committee. They examine student conduct issues and make suggestions to the college's provost.
- Contributing writer to Design414, Milwaukee's hub for online design events, articles, and news.
WORK EXPERIENCE
My work experience has narrowed from the broad background I came from. I started working at the earliest legal possibility - age 14. I was a dishwasher then and learned a lot about how life works. From there I became a farm-hand / tourist guide, then a concessions attendant and projectionist, then lastly a waiter. At one point I was working three jobs during the summer doing 70 hours a week. This wide background combined with a relentless work ethic has served me well. Now, my work concentrates mostly on Web and graphic design, whether for Carroll College, DP3 Marketing Group, or freelance projects. The list below is ordered from latest job to earliest.
- I've been involved in an approximate total of 25 Web sites and 10 print/branding campaigns throughout my life as of Fall 2006.
- MWI Media Group
Junior Web Developer // 2005-2006 // www.mwi.com
MWI is a premier media and marketing firm in Salt Lake City, Utah. I've been blessed with the opportunity to be involved with many projects so far. Most of my time includes creating the structural code for various sites, then applying that as a template to go along with their CMS system. It's been a great situation for me to keep working on my Web standards skills.
- DP3 Marketing Group Inc.
Head Web Developer // 2004-present // www.dp3marketing.com
This job really extends beyond the Web. I've been working hand-in-hand with Sean, the founder, on how to start up a business. This experience has been invaluable as I'll never learn this hands-on knowledge in any classroom. I've been doing everything from gathering customer data to creating promotional work to cold calls. On top of that, I still get to design and develop for print and Web.
- Graphic Designer for Carroll College
Graphic/Layout Design for Logos, Brochures, etc.; Web Design // 2004, 2006
I worked for the Student Life office at Carroll College. I received the opportunity to create many brochures, pamphlets, and logos. It really helped my print industry knowledge.
- Freelancer
Web Design and Development // 2002-2006
From the minute I knew I wanted to be involved with the Web, I started freelancing. Most projects were for free, but the experience has helped set me up to where I am today.
- Employment at four other establishments along the way. Inquiry for more information.
